Tokyo University - meeting the local experts
University of Tokyo
One of the pleasures of fieldwork is the opportunity to meet and make friends with colleagues
from all over the world. Today, our team was invited to the University of Tokyo
to meet members of the geosciences community, to see their laboratories and to give presentations
of our various on-going projects. Toby, Alison and Dave talked for close to 2 hours on various aspects
of our MARGINS-related work - from both Central America and the Marianas - with Toby also describing his
recent expedition to Oldoinyo Lengai, Tanzania. We received many questions about our work, and the discussion
continued over into the pizza party held after the talks. We had a very enjoyable day at the university. As
we walked home across Ueno Park in Central Tokyo, it started to rain - the impeding typhoon we wondered?
